How to Use the File Corruption Tool

1. Upload your file by dragging and dropping it into the upload area or clicking to browse your files.

Note: This tool works with any file type, but be careful with important files!

2. Choose corruption method:

  • Random Byte Corruption: Replaces random bytes with random values
  • Header Corruption: Corrupts the beginning of the file (file header)
  • Chunk Removal: Removes chunks of data from the file
  • Bit Flipping: Flips random bits in the file
  • Byte Shuffling: Shuffles bytes in a section of the file

3. Set corruption level using the slider. Higher values create more corruption.

4. Choose start position for the corruption:

  • Random: Corruption starts at a random position
  • Beginning of File: Corruption starts at the file header
  • Middle of File: Corruption starts in the middle
  • End of File: Corruption starts near the end

7. Download the corrupted file by clicking the "Download Corrupted File" button.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I want to corrupt a file?

There are several legitimate reasons to create corrupted files:

  • Testing error handling in software applications
  • Testing file recovery tools
  • Educational purposes to understand file structures
  • Creating glitch art effects
  • Simulating data corruption scenarios for training

Can corrupted files be recovered?

It depends on the corruption method and level. Some lightly corrupted files might still be partially usable or recoverable with specialized software. However, heavily corrupted files are often permanently damaged. Always make backups of important files before corrupting them.

What file types can I corrupt?

This tool can corrupt any file type, including images, documents, videos, audio files, executables, and more. Different file types may show different behaviors when corrupted.

What's the difference between corruption methods?

Each method damages files in different ways:

  • Random Byte Corruption: Most general method, replaces random bytes throughout the file
  • Header Corruption: Targets the file header, which often makes the file completely unreadable
  • Chunk Removal: Removes sections of data, which can create interesting effects in media files
  • Bit Flipping: More subtle corruption that flips individual bits rather than whole bytes
  • Byte Shuffling: Rearranges bytes in a section, which can create interesting visual glitches in images

Is there a file size limit?

Yes, the maximum file size is 50MB. For larger files, you may need to use desktop software.

Is my data secure?

Yes, all file processing happens directly in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to our servers, ensuring complete privacy and security.

Can I use this tool to avoid file detection or bypass security?

No, this tool is not designed for and should not be used for any malicious purposes, including evading security measures or creating harmful files. It is intended for legitimate testing, educational, and creative purposes only.
