How to Use the Image Rotation Tool

1. Upload your image by dragging and dropping it into the upload area or clicking to browse your files.

2. Choose a rotation option:

  • Rotate Left 90°: Rotates the image 90 degrees counterclockwise
  • Rotate Right 90°: Rotates the image 90 degrees clockwise
  • Flip Horizontal: Mirrors the image horizontally (left to right)
  • Flip Vertical: Mirrors the image vertically (top to bottom)
  • Custom Angle: Rotates the image by a specific angle between -180° and 180°

3. Adjust canvas options:

  • Maintain Original Dimensions: Keeps the same width and height, which may crop the image after rotation
  • Auto-resize Canvas: Adjusts the canvas size to fit the entire rotated image, which may add transparent areas

4. Select output format based on your needs:

  • JPEG: Best for photographs, smaller file size
  • PNG: Supports transparency, better for graphics
  • WebP: Modern format with better compression and quality

5. Click "Apply Rotation" to process your image.

6. Preview the result and download the rotated image.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I need to rotate an image?

There are several common reasons to rotate images:

  • Correcting orientation of photos taken with a camera or smartphone
  • Adjusting scanned documents to the proper orientation
  • Creating artistic compositions by changing perspective
  • Preparing images for specific layouts in documents or websites
  • Fixing images that were saved with incorrect orientation

What's the difference between "Maintain Original Dimensions" and "Auto-resize Canvas"?

When you rotate an image, especially at custom angles, the rotated image may no longer fit within the original rectangular dimensions. Maintain Original Dimensions keeps the same width and height as the original image, which may result in parts of the rotated image being cropped off. Auto-resize Canvas adjusts the canvas size to ensure the entire rotated image is visible, which may add transparent areas to fill the rectangular shape.

Will rotating an image affect its quality?

Rotating an image by 90°, 180°, or 270° (multiples of 90°) or flipping it horizontally/vertically will not degrade image quality. However, rotating by custom angles (like 45°) requires resampling of pixels, which can cause some minor quality loss. For best results, start with the highest quality image available and choose PNG as your output format if quality is critical.

What happens to the EXIF data when rotating an image?

This online tool does not preserve EXIF data (metadata) from the original image. If you need to maintain EXIF information, you might need to use specialized software.

Can I rotate multiple images at once?

Currently, this tool processes one image at a time. For batch processing of multiple images, you might need to use desktop software.

What image formats are supported?

Our image rotation tool supports most common image formats including JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and WebP. The output can be saved as JPEG, PNG, or WebP.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes, the maximum file size is 10MB. For larger files, you may need to resize or compress the image first.

Is my data secure?

Yes, all image processing happens directly in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to our servers, ensuring complete privacy and security.
